The PAL program has really expanded under the leadership of Chief Harteau. There are more officers working with the PAL kids and the number of PAL members grew from 300 to 495 between 2013 and 2014. The team working out of the Special Operations Center on the Northside facilitated basketball, football, soccer, boxing, summer fitness camps, the Police Explorers Picnic, and the Minneapolis Youth Leadership Academy. Two recent upgrades to the League are bi-monthly yoga sessions and tutors who are helping kids with their academic work prior to any sports practices. Recently, 3 officers taught a group of kids how to play baseball, and in their first season ever, they developed so quickly that they swept through the playoffs and won the league championship. PAL provides children with mentors and role models teaching them the values of hard work and respect while promoting healthy and active lifestyles.
